Rada obliges media outlets to insure journalists working in the combat zone

This was reported by the co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, Iryna Gerashchenko.

“The Verkhovna Rada generally supported the amendments to the Law “On State Support of the Media, Guarantees of Professional Activity and Social Protection of Journalists” to bring its provisions in line with the Law of Ukraine “On Insurance” No. 11153,” Gerashchenko said.

According to her, the document was adopted by 275 votes.

The adopted amendments stipulate that media entities, at their own expense or at the expense of any other sources not prohibited by law, are obliged to provide accident insurance for the life, health, and disability of journalists and other employees for the period of their business trip to the areas of military (combat) operations and/or the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The procedure and terms of insurance will be determined by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications in coordination with the National Bank.

The law comes into force one month after the day following its publication.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada passed in the second reading the draft law No. 11416d on changes in taxation.
